I was in downtown Portsmouth this past weekend. As we were strolling around we came across a real estate office. The office had MLS listing sheets in the window. Each one had a QR code. I whipped out my phone to scan one. It didn’t work! The web page the QR code led to came up “error.” So did the next two I tried!
Argh!! How pathetic!
Your QR Code Must Lead to a Mobile Site
We planned on heading to “Water Country” water park. Julia, my six year old, grabbed a brochure. After she poured through it several times she let me see it. On the back was a QR code. You guessed right. Being the “Mobile Freak” I am I had to scan it.
Guess what… It didn’t lead to a Mobile Site. It just went to their regular site which looked horrible on the small screen of my android phone.
Lastly…
Make Your Mobile Pages Specific
Here’s what I mean. If you’re gonna use a QR Code in your marketing. Give a specific call to action and reason to scan it to your prospect. Then, make the actual page specific to that promotion.
Example…
You’re running a back to school promo in print. Well, have a mobile page that expands on your back to school promo. It is really simple and so much more effective.
